What do you think about this software? Write a review about it!

not as easy as they make it sound!
Reviewer: A software user Date: May 28, 2005 Rating:

I am just getting started using the program so I can not yet judge the overall product. I can tell you that the product description said: just load the software and you will be writing scripts in minutes regardless if you are a first timer or a pro.

That is a stretch. I had to get a tech guy to load the program and then it really is not walking me through the "how to" part of script writing.

Just be prepared to spend some time at the beginning.

perfect except for one flaw
Reviewer: wideiris Date: May 27, 2005 Rating:

I've had this software since it was Script Thing, before they got bought out and turned into the program under review. The program is basically the same as Script Thing was, only a little cleaner and a little smarter.

First off, let me say that i've been writing in the film/television business for a few years now, and i've tried Final Draft and Scriptware, and neither of them compare to the ease of use of MM2K.

FOR BUDDING WRITERS:

You can save files to .txt so anybody can read them, and the formatting stays (not just .txt, also PDF and Scriptware, and Final Draft and even RTF for Mac's!). simple, easy, productive, effective.

The files are also a lot smaller in MM2K, so if you were looking to write a lot in Word, (avg file size 250KB, as opposed to MM2K 78KB) you can save a lot of space on your HD.

If you're serious about writing for film/television/theatre, i cannot stress enough the need to get this program. it will save you hours and hours of your life so you can put more time into your projects.

Everyone in the industry (almost) is familiar with or uses this software, and that's good for anyone looking to break in, because you can email scripts, print them properly, use the right margins, etc. it even comes with templates for various popular television shows, so if you were looking to write a sample script (a 'spec') you could do it properly. i would never have guessed the way "friends" does theirs, and thankfully MM2K had the template, and my spec looked great.

CURRENT WRITERS:

To the more advanced user, you have probably used/seen other screenwriter tools, similar to this one. while a change is always a little discomforting, i would definitely suggest switching to this program over ScriptWare, and I would call it a draw if you're already completely familiar with Final Draft.

If you have a copy of another screenwriter program, you can get an upgrade for $99 at the most, depending on the program you're using by calling 1800 84 STORY, their phone number.

I would suggest checking out "www.screenwriter.com" or their other backwards link from "www.scriptthing.com".

THE ONE FLAW

If you do NOT have an internet connection to register your copy of the program online, you will have to have the disk in the CD-ROM at all times until you do. Very irritating, although understandable when you realize that they are a small company in a niche market trying to protect their investment. So beware this catch, as it's not posted on their website anywhere.

I guess an even bigger flaw would be if you don't have a CD-ROM, because they don't make them on floppy.

Good luck and Happy Writing!
